Along Came Chloe

Ok, so now here's part 2 of our 3 part animal segment. :) With Oliver in our lives we were content to have this sweet kitty who was good company. Unfortunately he was not content if he was ever alone. I mean, this cat would cry and meow for hours if David and I both left and weren't at home with him. We only knew this because our neighbors told us they heard his cries and we would hear him desperately meow every time we left the apartment. We started to feel bad to leave him by himself. We decided that the solution was to get him a friend...i.e bring home yet ANOTHER cat. So we once again went to the local PETCO and scoped out cats they had for adoption through the Humane Society. By the way, if you are interested in bringing home a pet, we think adopting is an excellent solution b/c most of these animals are up to date on their shots and are well taken care of! Not to mention already house trained and usually socialized with kids and other pets. Anyway, initially we actually brought home a different cat, but Oliver and the other cat ended up not getting along! Thankfully there is a policy where you can always bring the animal back if it doesn't work out in your home. That's one of the reasons we talked ourselves into bringing another cat home...b/c we could always just take it back if it didn't work out.

A few weeks went by and we went back to the pet store and there we met Chloe. Well, they had named her Girly, but we liked the name Chloe...so that's what we called her. She had already been "fixed" and had the most unusual markings and a cool black spot over her nose. We did the holding test and she was calm and very affectionate as well. Since she was a bit on the "big boned" side we figured she would have no problems holding her ground and getting along with Oliver. They estimated that she was about the same age as Oliver, but we think she may be a bit older. When we brought her home we carefully introduced Chloe to Oliver and let them sniff each other under a closed door. Since there wasn't any hostility we eventually put them together and they immediately became friends.

The two cats are good company for each other...they play together and sleep together and just seem content having each other around. Best of all, Oliver stopped crying when we left him at home--for the most part--because he now had someone to keep him company. Chloe is a sweet cat, but definitely likes to do things on her own terms. She's friendly when she feels like being friendly. I can always call her and she will come sit on my lap or at least come over for a scratch behind the ears. Chloe is also an indoor only cat and we had her front claws removed at the same time as when we had Oliver's front claws removed. It's amazing what damage cats can do with those little claws!!

Overall we are lucky to have 2 sweet kitties! But 2 is our limit--I swear!! :) I definitely don't want to be the "crazy cat lady"!
